WHO WE ARE Based in Bangkok, all(zone) is a group of happy design professionals who joyfully collaborate with specialists across the borders of their fields and country. We are fascinated by our ever-changing mega metropolis that gives a form to our everyday life. Our observations are always captured by contemporary vernacular design solutions. We, therefore, try to learn from them in order to create alternative built environments where all could feel 'at home' in the world. We can be reached at allzone@allzonedesignall.com ![]() ALLZONER |

How Deep is Your Love? Cyprus / July, 2008
The competition for the island of Cyprus to imagine how to enhance the tourist activities of the island. It is organized for the exhibition of Venice Biennale of Architecture 2008. The idea is to emphasize the 'romantic scene of Cyprus via light structures as well as extending the surface of the seashores where the tourists gather the most. Imagine Cyprus as an Island of Love.. When you arrive Cyprus from an airplane, the first image you see is hundreds of small heart-shape islands around the main island. It may sounds literal, well it does sound very literal, but in the world of relaxation, who cares about being intellectual, we think...It could be an image that Cyprus could sell themselves very well all over the world, as the Island of Love.nThe different size heart-shape islands are actually extensions of the beach surface of Cyprus on the rocky shores. The construction is very simple, they are merely a raft structure...a platform on the water next to the shore. Different kinds of activities related to LOVE and relaxation could be housed there at the floating structures such as a wedding.... Imagine a wedding "at the bottom of my heart"...:-) MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

P House Bangkok / January, 2007
The main structure of the house was already built when we arrived. Originally it was supposed to be a house for a retired couple, later it was given to the daughter who works as a reseacher of national IT policy office. Our task is to transformed the overall house into the new lifestyle and programs. Sunscreen is applied as a main features of the house since all the windows are to be opened for the natural ventilation most of the time.

The Green House Effects Bangkok / December, 2006
The project is a third prize winning scheme of a competition to redesign the existing prototype of BTS station of the extension of the Green Line toward the east. Our proposal is to transformed the existing station which is merely ‘infrastructure’ into ‘architecture’ – a building artifact that is more integrated to how people live their lives, not only when they use the station but also when the stations are inserted into an existing environment. The folding metal sheet roof helps to diffuse the light and gives natural ventilations while initiates space where ‘to live’. MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

Millions Tiles Away Anywhere in Tropical Climate / September, 2007
Millions Tiles Away is a building prototype refers to vernacular Thai Architecture – the open hall and sala. It is a flexible enough to adapt with different functions that reflex our ever-changing world. The exterior tile’s pattern of the building could be also changed to communicate different programs. The building requires no air-conditioning system because of its ‘open’ nature which allows natural ventilation. Jeeranai Tiles are used for both the roof and the wall. Because of its light-weight nature, Jeeranai tiles, could be simple adapted as a wall of the building that responses to tropical climate. The tiles are assembled as a wall with small cuts on the tiles to create small voids for natural light. The prototype can be applied anywhere, anytime, any event. MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

Open House Bangkok / November, 2006
The project is a wining scheme for the competition to transform the old headquarters which is a small shophouse in the heart of Bangkok to become a 'city' office of ASA for younger generation of ASA members who live their lives in the city along the Sky Train system. The idea is to reflect and react with the position of architect profession in our society where very few people understand what architects do and why they have to hire architects. The scheme is to 'Open' the place of architects to the public - at least the people passing by. To have the whole building very visible if there is any activities and to add a program of a small coffee bar for ASA members, guests of members or anybody who just wants to stop by as if it is an ordinary public place. The space of the whole project tends to be very relaxing to meet with the young member's lifestyle who might use the place as their living room or meeting room. The architectural concept is to superimpose several programs upon the requirements into the same space, different time. It results into a central high-ceiling outdoor space as a multi-purpose space MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

Phi Phi Phi Phi Island, Thailand (under-construction) / July, 2007
Phi Phi International Community Resource center aims to support a local Sea-Gypsy community alienated by the high-end tourism industry in the north tip of Phi Phi Island. The project is a collaborative efforts of a local NGO group with several academic institutions to propose an alternative solution to the uneven development. The building acts as extended grounds to the topography creating an 'open' space. In the scarce area of any natural resources, the building is designed to integrate solar cell panels and water tanks as its main architectural elements. The simple usage of modern vernacular materials and prefabricated system is applied to cope with the remote area. The still-on-going construction process is also a collaboration of volunteers from all over the world. MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

The first showroom of SANA, an automatic faucet locally produced in Thailand, is in a small shophouse in Phuket. The mirror tiles cover all the surface to give an enlarging illusion to the space, similar to traditional Thai temple skin. The lighting is programed and activated via sensors that are similar to the system of automatic faucet.

Sway: Cyprus Cafe' Cyprus / July, 2008
The competition for the island of Cyprus to imagine how to enhance the tourist activities of the island. It is organized for the exhibition of Venice Biennale of Architecture 2008. The idea is called Cyprus Cafe' but we gave a nickname to it as "Sway with me, Stay with me". (It is from the song, "Sway" with a very romantic). The main reason we use the word 'sway' is because a little sway act as a supreme ideal of relaxation. Imagine you are on the beach, in a hammock, a little sway here and there, with the sun, the sand , the winds, not to mention the sounds of the waves..a good book, and good foods... in life you would not need more. Our idea is to have this a hammock cafe', a place where you can do a little relaxing sway, anywhere in Cyprus. But how to hang a hammock anywhere in Cyprus is not an easy task too. So we invented this simple device to help placing hammocks anywhere in Cyprus. It is a plastic tank with a form of six legs. With the form you can have a stable anchor in any ground condition. The plastic is so light that you can carry very easily, but when you want to it to become an anchor, just put some water in - so simple, so light (light techtonic is always the theme. It is Raining in the Metal Box Tokyo Designer's Week / January, 2008
It is a very small competition to design an exhibition in a container, which was a venue for everyone in a park during Tokyo Designer's Week 2008. The winners were to be awarded a free space and a very little budget to realize the exhibition there during Tokyo Designer's Week. Plus a wide range of publicity is guaranteed. Our idea is very simple. It comes from the condition that if we really had to go there to set up the exhibition with very little money supported from the organizer. With 60,000 yen in Tokyo, you could barely buy some cardboard to cover the interior space of the container. We, therefore, thought of something very light (as usual) very cheap (as always) and very easy to bring from Bangkok. This is our starting point is metal paper clips and small piece of magnet. The magnet acts as glue to keep paper clips attached with the surface of the container which is, of course, made of metal. Our space is created by thousands pieces of a tiny magnet sticked on the metal surface on the container, then a hundred thousands paper clips are chained together and sticked with the magnets. It looks like the line of rains falling from the sky. MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

Green Packaging Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) / April, 2009
The exhibition of Green Packaging, apart from introducing new materials for eco-friendly package, it is to raise an awareness between packaging that links to consumption and waste- the more people consume, the more packaging they use, the more waste we have. The skin is to portray the image of ‘products on supermarket shelf’ where you are overwhelmed by all the products with different labels and packaging. It is made of this plastic package type usually use for toys or small electronic parts. Given the durability, the cost and the heavy duty traveling display of the PVC plastic, we believe that our solution is pretty 'green' compares to other materials. The 1800 paper cards are printed by Soy Ink, another eco-friendly material. The container of the newly introduced materials is transparent garbage bin which is very common in public space in Bangkok after the bombing plot few years ago. It is obviously a link to consumption and garbage. The exhibition is also a traveling exhibition to all around the country where TCDC has their branches, mini TCDC, for about a year, therefore it has to be light and easy to assemble. The Headquarters Bangkok / October, 2009
Shophouse is the most common building typology of Bangkok during the process of urbanization in the past century. Getting obsolete nowadays because of the usage and the transformation of the environment, Bangkok urban fabric is full of not-properly-utilized shophouses in most of the prime areas. The project is a transformation of 2 units of shophouse in one of crowded area of Bangkok. Every floor is a working-living unit, a new typology for a small business or live-in studio, that is quite rare type in Bangkok. While the ground level is completely open for parking and plants. The addition parts are the new facades on both front and back made out of the prefabricated concrete blocks - the most common and cheapest construction materials found in the market - which is also acting as a sun shading, a curtain for privacy as well as thief protection device. The facades also create 'a breathing space', the space between the big windows and concrete blocks, for smoking, relaxing in the outdoor, plantings as well as air condensing units and service. Thai-Yo Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Thailand / March, 2010
The exhibition is a collection of the works of Thai artists and designers who are influenced by Japanese culture in different aspects. The main goal is to express the combination of Thai and Japanese cultural mixture as 'another-ness', not Thai, nor Japanese. The main technical difficulty is to display fine art objects with design and miscellaneous cultural objects. The different size 'paper-house' structures are designed to house mainly the design objects, leaving the fine art pieces in the gallery space in between. Besides breaking the vast space of the museum into 'rooms' and 'alleys', the structures create a profile of 'a village' with several houses cover by long white paper sheets - the cheapest materials per unit for the interior of such a purpose. The paper also signifies the similarity of light tectonic culture of the two cultures. The layers of the 'fragile' walls gives different viewpoints framing objects, creating the layering of space throughout the exhibition. MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

Materials from Nature Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), Bangkok / February, 2010
By applying new idea with simple manufacturing process, agricultural leftovers can be turned into new products which are different from existing ones in terms of application. The main objective of the exhibition by Materials Connexion Bangkok is to portray the very high potential of abundant natural materials around to the local Thais. The structure of the exhibition is made out of woven bamboo structure. The typology of the unit is designed by studying a local basket shape and pattern via a very long process of collaboration between the designers and the villagers/craftsmen in the provinces around Bangkok. The units are assembled with a very basic Platonic geometry. Each material can be displayed in a basket categorized by color code. The logotype of the exhibition is also influenced by the characters done by a woven technique. The overall exhibition is very light in order to be moved around the country throughout this year. HJS Ubon Rachathani, Thailand / July, 2010
Ubon Rachathani, the city bordering with Laos is selected to be the first prototype of public library revitalization. The exhibition is part of the inauguration of the library in July 2010. It is called ' He'd Jung Si Der, Jung Si Mee Okas' - a Northeastern Thai dialect or 'Do it like this, you will get an opportunity', suggesting the local that they can win back their business competitiveness if looking around themselves trying to come up with a new business idea. The key idea is 'searching around to find opportunity in an already familiar environment'. A forest ambient, where ever you look around, everywhere is the same, but it is not exactly the same. Also we want to use very familiar objects and materials then transform them into a new image. The pattern of the basic geometrical module is taken from the famous local fabric pattern of lotus flower, a curvy diamond shape. The pattern is transformed into three-dimensional wall structure. The walls are made out of very cheap EVA (Ethylene vinyl acetate) stripes. MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

The competition for a new canteen of Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. The main sponsor is a steel company, therefore all the materials have to be steel. The site offers several existing hundred-year-old trees - one of a very rare condition in Bangkok. Our idea is to have a lightest, most transparent, and simplest steel structure to create a space that is almost as open as those under the trees, where you can have to most ventilation but are protected from the sun.

New Taipei City Museum of Art Taipei, Taiwan / August, 2011
The idea competition for New Taipei City Museum of Art which we received Merit Award. The key idea is to create a museum that is NOT a 'sacred place' for art, rather it should be a place where people in town feel as comfortable and fun with art as a shopping mall. Asian lifestyle and urban space of colorful events and seasonal changes is the image we have for the atmosphere. The very dynamic condition of Asian city is seen through the concept of 'on-going construction' which could be seen through the scaffolding system of any construction site. The scale of the building has to be familiar to all grandmas in town, so the ground floor scale of the building is basically the Yingge town itself where all the super familiar and relax programs such as markets, restaurants, shops, workshops are located as attractors to the people. The upper town is basically the same scale of the downtown, but upside down, where all the serious art program are located. The void in-between is a flexible area where art activities and local general activities could meet and mingle - with no separation between 'art and life'. MORE ON BLOG(ZONE)

Siamese Twist Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC), Bangkok / August, 2011
Materials Connexion Bangkok wants to encourage designers in Thailand to work with local materials in MCB library. Five Thai designers from different fields including us, are invited to explore and experiment and then exhibit the result and process. Our duty is to choose and explore the materials that could house and explain the exhibition. We choose honeycomb structure paper which is very light, flexible in form and able to stand pressure load well. We express the essence of the materials by using it as horizontal planes (table) and curvy planes (cover). The main structure of the 'table' made of out of thin honeycomb paper structure sandwiched with thin layers of acrylic sheets. They are supported by the very light metal studs. While the curves of the 'cover' are the natural form of the paper structure itself, framing the displayed object under.
